More and more these days I find myself humming the tune to "The Star Spangled Banner". It's as if something inside me knows that the legality of singing this song is limited and I want to enjoy it while I can. The tears it never fails to bring to my eyes could sometime in the future be shed for things much more serious, but for now, I sing the song and cry a little more each time I do.
Every day I'm reminded that we no longer live in the America our Founding Fathers built. Some say this is a good thing; after all, why would we want to live in that "Victorian" age anyway? This is the 21st Century fore Pete's sake, we have "matured"!
Believe me, George Washington would turn over in his grave if he could see the ebbing tide of freedom passing as "maturity" these days.
I speak of a new era in America, a course charted that has never been sailed before; the path to totalitarianism. Our Constitution is rapidly becoming a relic fit only for the history books and the checks and balances it afforded in the past are fast disappearing. The timeline for a dictatorship or totalitarian government at this point is variable, it could be months or it could be decades, but unless action is taken now, it is coming.
In their wild eyed, self righteous frenzy of CEO-bashing, the pseudo angry masses have committed us to a course headed straight for the complete disappearance of the very right we have to get angry.
Just today, the CEO of General Motors Corp resigned his position at the insistence of the President. Presumably this has something to do with the large bailout his company is requesting, but I smell a rat. The government never gives any money away without strings attached and in this case, the (freshly printed) bills now winging their way from the mint into GM's coffers have more strings attached to them than does a redneck trotline.
One of those strings was pulled today, the first of many.
It's an understandable emotion, the hatred of Bernie Maddof, fat cat lobbysts, bonus grubbing CEO's and the like; the Ponzi's of the world deserve to be despized and critisized. However, you cannot attack pride with anger without getting bitten by the very bug you intend to squash.
The anger that the masses feel over misused and overspent money is justified, but it's also a planned and elicited response that is generating another currency: political capital.
Remember, the mantra the government lives by now is "Never waste a good crisis".
If the government can convince you that lavish lifestyles, big paychecks, lax regulation and limosines are the cause of this finanial crisis, they can enact the largest Ponzi sceme the world has ever known without you suspecting a thing.
While you are busy frothing at the mouth over fat cat millionaires, they are quietly wrapping chains around your feet so that when you want to run to the protection The Constitution and the Bill of Rights offers you, you won't even be able to see them for the tangle of regulations and new laws being enacted even as I write.
Big government doesn't (and can't) see solutions, it can only see problems that need fixing and it's solution to those problems are more problems that need fixing (such as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, both creations of big government gone awry).
Don't be duped by a temporary rise or drop in the market, it's neither here nor there. If the legislation that is passing and getting ready to pass isn't repealed, none of that will matter in the long run; you will have already lost your freedoms.
And your country.
It seems that instead of being called "The Freedom Tower", the replacement for the World Trade Center towers leveled in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 will now be called
The One World Trade Center. Top that with much of the world dropping the American dollar as it's reserve currency and demanding a
one world currency, we might not be far off from a
one world government after all!
Perhaps the horsemen of the apocalypse I paint for you are further off than the picture shows; I certainly hope so! But what if I'm right?
Then it's time to set priorities.
In my favorite book, the Bible, there are 365 instances of the phrase "Do not be afraid"- one for every day of the year. I take that to mean that no matter how bleak the picture may look, those who follow Jesus have nothing to fear. Certainly we will be affected like the rest of humanity, but our security rests not in temporal things.
There is a world quickly becoming disenchanted out there, let's go out and see what God will do with a few people willing to risk their fury to dare to love!

The "change" we were promised is here. The problem is that no one bothered to stop and ask what that change meant. Now we are finding out.
First, i didn't realize that phrase was in there 365 times. That's amazing. God is amazing.
I am sad for this country. The flesh part of me IS afraid. But mostly i'm sad. I love my country, but the country i love is dead. Its been dying a slow death for years... and now it's gone.
I see on MSN today that the bailout money will be denied to the automakers...wonder what else our leaders have in mind for them??? I will continue praying.
Powerful words, my friend. The casting aside of the constitution is the most troubling. The very thing that affirms our God given rights.
You have such a great way of painting word pictures in your readers minds. I love your style of writing....and the other great thing is I agree with you over and over again. :)
I love it: NEVER WASTE A GOOD CRISIS. I would laugh if it wasn't so dog-gone true.
I prefer to sing God Bless America and My Country Tis Of Thee.....both of those songs swell tears in my eyes. What a blessed, rich and abudant country our fore-fathers created for us....and look what we've done. I was just at a homeshow this past weekend and was able to speak to 2 WWII veterans....they carry a very distinguished presence about them. I speak to them with utmost reverance and humility. They were without a doubt The Greatest Generation.
Thanks for your thoughts here. I always enjoy your posts. :)
VERY well written....For those of us who know "what's up" here the fear factor is big...thanks for the encouragement.
I had to go checked the "One World Tower" name out to believe it....and now I do. Our world has become a very frightening place....it boggles my mind how it has all "come together" when Obama was elected...I"m going to make that list of verses so I can truly read one a day....Sounds like good medicine for a world gone mad.
Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. Luke 21:26 - 28
This is so well written......... Our hope is in Him.
It seems that time is really winding up. We used to sing an old song that said that, and it seems more true than ever. Prophecy being fulfilled before our very eyes.
I remember when we fought Desert Storm. I remember the end of it - I was in elementary school, in gym class. They interrupted over the loud speaker and played the Star-Spangled Banner and My Country Tis of Thee. I remember, at that young age, tears in my eyes and running down my cheeks with pride for this country.
I was just thinking the other day how that pride is lost. We have nothing left of which to be proud. It's sad, and scary...I hope I don't see the end in my lifetime.
This has been coming for a long time. It actually started in the Civil War when State's rights were relegated to second place to Federal power. It has continued with changes to what our Founder's ideas (like State legislature appointed Senators). And it has had the final nail driven in with the advent of the nanny state and the popular acceptance of it.
Now we are reaping the "benefits" of it, and are appalled. Unfortunately, the past decisions we made also handed over far too much power to people who are unworthy of it and frankly, they don't want to give it back. Personally, I don't see the process being reversed.
No, they'll keep the name, Freedom Tower. Just got to understand under the new regime that "Freedom" will not mean the same then it does now, any more than "gay" means you're happy.
